ABOUT US

 The www.stopthepainnow.org website has been constructed and is operated by Your Nuhorizons Inc ("NuHorizons") ,  a charitable organization formed under the not-for-profit laws of the State of New York. NuHorizons is a 501(c)(3) organization classified by the IRS as a public charity.

 

MISSION STATEMENT -   NuHorizons is a non-profit charitable corporation, formed to provide among other services,  charitable programs and services  to women and children victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and harassment.

Our initial programs and services consist of the following:

Stop The Pain Public Awareness Project - to raise public awareness of domestic violence, sexual assault and sexual harassment today in the United States.

NuHorizons Jobs For Women Program a comprehensive workforce development  program for women victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment and similarly situated individuals providing opportunities for online educational and vocational training and job training, experience, and assistance in qualifying for, locating, and securing self sustaining permanent community employment to aid our program participants in obtaining financial stability.  For survivors who need to improve their education and employment skills or pursue new careers, workforce development programs can provide an important path to economic security and safety.On average, a woman leaves an abusive relationship seven times before she leaves for good, according to The National Domestic Violence Hotline.  Nationwide, 75% of battered women return to their abusers due to economic and financial instability (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence). 

The NuHorizons Board of Directors, Advisory Board, and Advocates are a group of individuals using their time and experience to provide the programs and services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment and similarly situated individuals.

MANAGEMENT

Kaitlyn Carpenter, 21, Vice President and member of the Nuhorizons Board of Directors is Program Director for the Nuhorizons Jobs for Women Program.

After obtaining approvals for Nuhorizons to participate in the PayPal Giving Fund and eBay For Charity nonprofit programs, Kaitlyn established a Direct Seller eBay page – buyforcharity - where 100% of all eBay sales goes to support the Nuhorizons Jobs for Women Program.

Stephen Bodnar

Executive Director,Treasurer, and Chairman, Board of Directors

 

     Stephen Bodnar is Executive Director,Treasurer and Chairman of the Board of Directors of NuHorizons. Stephen, 56 years old, is currently owner / operator of SMB Consulting. Stephen is a former sports desk editor / columnist for the Syracuse Newspapers, worked at Magna International / New Process Gear until the plant closing in 2012, most recently he has worked at Crouse Hinds a division of Eaton Corporation.
     Stephen has donated his time throughout his life to helping good causes. Stephen is an accomplished bowler and past licensed owner with the New York State Racing and Wagering Board of Standardbred race horses. A Syracuse native, Stephen currently resides on the north side, where he grew up.

Andrew Bennett

Secretary, Member - Board of Directors

     Andrew, 27, was born and raised in Central New York and is passionate about NuHorizons growing and personally being able to help others. He feels that combined, substance abuse and domestic violence is a huge area that could use more genuine people, and if we all work together - We can make a Difference!

Andrew will work throughout the Central New York community to gain support for the launch and operation of the NuHorizons Jobs  Programs, public awareness projects and future programs, and services to be offered to victims of domestic violence, individuals recovering from substance abuse, and similarly situated individuals throughout Central New York.
     Andrew is a graduate of V-V-S high school and attended Onondaga Community College majoring in business administration, and is currently employed by Rent-A-Center as Manager of the Utica, N.Y. store.

     Andrew has extensive experience in creating and operating marketing and promotional campaigns through various online 'daily deal' sites, including Groupon and Living Social.
     Andrew has done volunteer work with other nonprofits and has constructed and manages  the stopthepainnow.org website.

Patrick Bennett

     Patrick M. Bennett, 29, is a volunteer Advocate and member of the Board of Directors and is currently employed by Rent-A-Center. Patrick started with an entry level position at the Rome store, was promoted to Credit Manager at the Utica store, has been the Store Manager at the Palentine Bridge Rent-A-Center store and is now Store Manager at an Albany Rent-A-Center store. Patrick has extensive personal and business social media background, having developed, constructed, and implemented marketing programs online using the 'daily deal' sites, Groupon and Living Social.  Patrick manages the Nuhorizons Facebook page. Patrick graduated from Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High school, attended Le Moyne College, and currently resides in Sherrill, New York

Brandon is a sales manager at the Utica Rent-A-Center providing great customer service and sales support to the surrounding communities. Brandon is also a motivated leader, with strong work skills, who also owns his own business, State Wide Services, earning  numerous outstanding customer comments.

    Brandon, who is a graduate of VVS High School and Mohawk Valley Community College (with degrees in Applied Science and Business Administration) looks forward to assisting NuHorizons in providing programs and services throughout Central New York. In specific, the NuHorizons Jobs for Women's Program.

Dale Harp

NuHorizons Advocate, Member - Advisory Board

 

Dale Edward ("Harpo") Harp is a member of the NuHorizons Advisory Committee. Dale has been employed at various companies in the greater Syracuse area including Crouse Hinds, Crucible Steel, General Electric, Carrier Air Conditioning, Holiday Inn, Syracuse Plastics and Magna Power Train, former Chrysler.
   Dale has various certificates from dale Carnegie  Educational Achievement, Whitman College, School of Management for Entrepreneurial ship, as well as in Culinary Arts.
   Dale attends Onondaga Community College pursuing a degree in Counseling for Alcohol and Substance Abuse, as well as Writing.  Dale also wrote the book, "The Day My Dawgs Ran" under the synonym D.E. Harp, based on Dale's personal life experiences.
   Dale's goal in life is to show all people they have a purpose in life, following his motto, "If you can save one life, that life may be the one that can save ten". Dale implements his motto through community volunteer work as a Board member of The Syracuse Cuse Connection, Southside Stand Magazine, as well as a volunteer for the Mary Nelson Youth Foundation.

Gwen Bennett

   Gwen K. Bennett, has worked in the food and beverage and hospitality industries throughout Central New York for over 30 years.  During its 45 year ownership of Vernon Downs Raceway, Gwen was one of only two women elected to the Board of Directors of Mid-state Raceway, Inc., a public corporation.  A lifetime resident of Central New York, Gwen currently resides in Sherrill, New York.

Marie Pratt

   Marie graduated from Mohawk Valley Community College with a degree in Secretarial Science (Legal Secretary). Marie has long been active in the local business community, owning the Harness House Restaurant in Vernon (1975-1985) and working for Pizza Hut from 1980 to 2007. In 1989, Marie became Pizza Hut's Director of Operations for restaurants throughout the Mohawk Valley (up to 19 restaurants). Since 1977, Marie has owned MAP Properties, a local apartment rental business.
